I am starting this thread as I read in another thread cheers has given icy a pen e- coupon thing for free lunches. I made a post on that thread about this  but not sure if icy will see it.

To protect the privacy of our information ( email addresses, phone numbers etc) we need to read all the terms and conditions when filling out forms for free stuff or surveys (whatch out for tick boxes too).

By agreeing to the T&C's in most of these offers or some surveys we agree the business running these promotions have the right to keep our email address and phone number and pass them on to unrelated third parties so that they may contact you and do a hard sell on you for their services or products.

It is not worth the freebies to have your private info handed on to other unrelated business, then you get hassled by phone calls from them.

I clicked on something in a survey once and had a life insurance co phone me up relentlessly even though on the first call I told them I had no interest in their products and don't call again.
Because you have agreed to the T&Cs, or ticked a box that gives these third parties permission to call or email you.

When you think about it... Businesses aren't known to give away freebies without there being some advantage to them in the deal ( gathering personal info, on selling that info...)

The Red Rooster free lunch coupon T&Cs mention you give them permission to pass your details on to third parties. >:(

no such thing as a free lunch.

If someone rings... all you have to do is hang up. Yu don't even have to say hello if you don't want too.  :P

If a third party emails you.. then block them.  8)

If you think your life is private, then I hope you are happy living under your little rock  :-*
(I mean that is the nicest possible way, mousey  :) )

Better still don't sign up...no phone calls to ignore, nor emails to delete. :)

It's not a matter of thinking your life is private. It is a matter of people being aware and making choices not to have their details shared.

Yeah I learned that lesson the hard way.
I entered a competition to win a cruise and it asked you all what you liked to in your leisure, what books you like to read, family etc..

a few days later the cold and the spam emails calls started coming in. Never again will I enter and surverys or competitions.

All you need to do, when entering these comps, is give out your correct mobile number.
If you must supply an email, FAKE IT!!  just change one single letter or ADD one single letter if you cant fake it.

If you MUST supply a landline number.. FAKE IT!

I have never been cold-called via my mobile. NEVER...  and I have had my number for over 15yrs.
But, if you win, they will always try  your mobile number when email and landline fail to find you :-)

Flasher has more to do with figuring things out than KFC. How to make him go forwards instead of backwards.

I thought "backpedalling" was an appropriate term.

Backpedalling might be a good thing .... pity some others here wouldn't do it more often!  ::)

Not I'm not having a dig. At anyone. Just passing the time. Might just go and pot my purple geranium.

You miss the  wholepoint of this thread - there is no point handing out you private details on a plate to third parties (but agreeing to Promotion, some loyalty card etc terms &c's).

That IS something you can avoid.
