My sincerest sympathy to Adam and the family. Monno was a unique and intelligent man who debunked bs wherever he saw it.

He will be missed R.I.P.

Me too.
Now and again I ventured over to his epic
Thread and was quite astounded at the
Vigilance .
He would enter at the end of each day,
Without fail and give  his opinion on the state
Of the current political climate.
Answer any questions or debate .
Members who probably never read his thread
Would call on him for confirmation of other
Matters.
He was rock solid and it was a credit to him to
Be remembered and farewelled by so many
Members..

http://m.mini.com.au/MININews/still-flying-around-the-world/

I was reading that with this soft smile on my face. Then I scrolled back to the top and saw the date - only two months ago. I wonder if he knew how short the time was he had left?

I wonder if he took them to task over the errors in the article . '' But, a weakness for British engineering isn’t the only thing that sets him apart.''
Now John would have known that his Mini was built by BMW , the earlier car had an engine built in Brazil , the later engine was in fact supplied by Peugeot  :) Maybe he didn't have the strength to have it corrected or he was prepared to overlook it.. (Highly unlikely).

I never really knew him or had anything to do with him. (I saw him post, but don't recall ever interacting with him.) and it seems like that was my loss. I didn't know him, but I wish that I did. I wonder how many people leave that kind of legacy?

The date of his passing seems quite fitting though considering he is a past serviceman. If he served in the UK, then he was able to hold on past their memorial days, and if for Australia, then he almost made it to ours. So a special time really, not on a day reserved for all servicemen in general, but during a period of time when they are all remembered, but he also gets his own special day too.

I think that is pretty awesome.

I  doubt if the magazine devoted to Minis would not have known about the info you provided.  I think, though, you may have mis-read the article.

John was a British Electrical Engineer. '' But, a weakness for British engineering isn’t the only thing that sets him apart.''  He was also an RAF Pilot.

Cheers, sometimes interviews, stories, etc are conducted up to 12 months prior to actual publication.

RIP Monman.12

I cant see how a direct quote can be a misread  :) best to leave it out if you fail to comprehend something . The magazine is a glossy printed for owners and dealerships not a technical publication. The points i made are 100% verifiable . try having a look.

Apologies Frownland.  A couple of lines were omitted from my previous post. It appears on my screen but not in the sent post.
Strange.  It doesn't want to come up again.  Will re-type now, rather than C&P.

John was a British Electrical Engineer.  "But, a weakness for British engineering isn't the only thing that sets him apart."  He was also an RAF Pilot.
